Life as a person of color in the United States of America. The saddest part is, despite pulling his GUN out on a paying customer over a pack of Mentos, most white people would be okay with this because he said “my apologies” at the end.

This white person is NOT okay with any of this! This is just ridiculous and so scary...pulling a gun on an innocent man over mentos...what in the world is going on in America?? I love my country, but I feel much safer here in England.
-
Over mentos?! I’m so so pissed
. Sadly others have died , been riddled with bullets for much less... nothing. -
I am surprised I haven't seen more of these comments. Last I looked, misdemeanor shoplifting is not cause to pull a weapon in the first place.

The clerk seemed extremely passive. He should have quickly spoken up to say this man paid for it. He seemed willing to wait for the man to get shot.

Why didnt the store owner speak up? He knew the man paid for the mints.
-
He was probably just as scared.
-
Right. Only the guys with the gun, pepper spray, body armor, batons, and training get to be scared I guess.

Imagine getting SHOT over mentos... this is america.

Trayvon being shot over skittles, this is a grim reminder that you can get shot over anything.

When did it become cops' 1st response to draw their firearm? Even if this guy had just shoplifted (he didnt), drawing a gun as you ID yourself as a cop turns a $1.99 crime into a potential deadly force situation. Asking any cops out there--is the SOP in your dept? Surely not?
-
Also, terrible gun handling--fooling around a couple seconds as he pulls & checks gun, holding it down (good trigger discipline, though, fwis), then stuffing it in his pocket 6 ft away??? If guy HAD been wanted, that might have gone badly 4 officer + no arrest was attempted

-
Good call, Zakariah, if this guy had been stealing and had been armed that police office would easily have been shot The gun came out un-cocked and from a pocket that caught the edges and he didn't even present the gun, he just let it hang by his side. Not very smooth
-
I assume you've seen the numerous training videos that show how quickly somebody can close distances of ten feet or more? This scene looked bad from every angle.
-
Absolutely I could easily have drawn from waistband and have fired a round before the officer had his weapon charged and ready to fire The other people in the store are in worse danger because of his bad draw. Imagine if the other man had gone for his gun, might've shot cashier
