One of the most beautiful, painful, honest pieces of art I’ve seen in my entire life. “This is America” encapsulated the Black Experience with song, dance, melody, tone, facial expressions, eyes, shocking violence, humor, beauty, and so much more. https://youtu.be/VYOjWnS4cMY

Couldn't agree more. The crazy amount of layers and symbolism in every shot is breathtaking. There should be essays and books written on this. As well as studied in film school. I'm obsessed with the artistry.

Each time I look at it I find something different but the message stays the same.

The plain fact is that, THIS IS AMERICA. Pointless shootings, churches shot up or burned down, children seeing all of this, the lynching actually has happened, extreme divide, etc. No 1 can say its not true, we all should say how do WE change it. Dont shoot the messenger!

My first take on this was that I didn't realize that he had so much talent as a dancer. It's an intentional distraction. I needed to watch again to notice what was happening in the background.

I noticed a possible Rene Magritte reference (see pic), really evocative choreo reminiscent of Ryan Heffington's work, and a possible nod to the movie Get Out toward the end of the video. Donald Glover is amazing!pic.twitter.com/4JvRDvlyhL

400 years of pain and deception and despair boiled down to four minutes, every second full of stories, transformed by performance. Amazing. Thank you,

The crazy amount of symbolism was genius. To create a visual for Americans to fall for the bait was essentially the mastermind behind Gambino’s art. Instead of looking at the root of our problems, they focused on him. Of course, this is what I’m interpreting so I could be wrong.
