What I am about to share is one of the most egregious abuses of power in the criminal justice system I've ever heard of. Took me a few weeks to gather this information. I just couldn't believe it. I saw what I thought I saw. Here we go...

Without ever being convicted for a crime, Kevin was kept in jail on a drug charge for all of: 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 Then, in a decision I followed very closely, a judge ordered his release, stating that his constitutional right to a speedy trial was violatedpic.twitter.com/r8zchm3l8T

So, in November of 2017, having served 7 years in jail without ever being convicted of a crime, local news reports stated that Kevin Smith was going to be free in 2-3 days. http://www.theadvocate.com/new_orleans/news/courts/article_d76e9496-c995-11e7-bd8b-4bb8d14cacbf.html … I thought that was the end of if and that he would soon be free. I was wrong.

Having been jailed for 7 straight years without ever being convicted, a judge dismissed his case, and ordered him set free. To my surprise, it never happened. Kevin's still in jail RIGHT NOW. What I am about to tell you is as egregious an offense as anything you'll ever hear.

The State of Louisiana, having jailed Kevin Smith now for 8 years without ever convicting him of a crime, now says they are going to jail him to 2022 for not changing his mailing address properly 8 years ago. He's a for-profit prison. The owners are filthy rich.

Your misrepresentations and/or omissions of facts in this case are appalling. Your readers deserve better and your editors (if any) should order a retraction of your false claims.pic.twitter.com/gf5fBBuYYJ

You would have more credibility if your parish did not rank first in prosecutorial misconduct and reversals.http://fairpunishment.org/new-report-on-rates-of-prosecutorial-misconduct/ …

And then there is this which puts New Orleans DA's office in a class of their own in prosecutorial misconduct.https://thelensnola.org/2017/04/26/orleans-parish-prosecutors-are-using-fake-subpoenas-to-pressure-witnesses-to-talk-to-them/ …

Your DA's office is infamous as the most corrupt in the country, so why would anyone believe you about anything?https://www.innocenceproject.org/prosecutorial-oversight-national-dialogue-wake-connick-v-thompson/ …

Prisons make money for each person they detain.
#fact -
And
#privateprisons have#state govt contracts guaranteeing a specific number of prisoners. This must be Unconstitutional. No wonder#Kochtopus want to rewrite the#Constitution.#NoConCon - End of conversation

The for-profit prison surely figures into this horror. But how? What's the connection between LaSalle Corrections and the DA? Or the parole board members? Or either Flemings-Davillier or whatever judge went along for the latest ride?
-
With money, you buy goods and services, so people are motivated to do whatever they can to make more. The prison is comprised of people who are making money by holding someone against their will and the people we pay to represent us, and not prisons, are not stepping in.
