The greatest indicator of who you'd be during slavery or any previous era is who you are right now. If today you find yourself kissing the ass and wearing the hat of the bigoted leader, THAT'S who you'd be in previous generations.
So many elders from the Civil Rights Movement told me that people should never assume who they'd be under the pressure of previous generations. It's disrespectful. And that if you aren't fighting for civil/human rights NOW you damn sure wouldn't be doing it in the 1850s/1950s
I'm not even worried or concerned w/ him per se, just his influence. He says he's great, says he's revolutionary. What has he done? Been popular, made millions, married well. That is not greatness. He is not a learned individual, just another someone who likes to hear themselves.

Objectively, as far as financial security and popularity is concerned, he did. Subjectively, well, that's a horse of a different color.
