the only part that made me cringe was discrediting filipino men from asian men, aka, south asian/pacific islanders don’t count as “asian,” only light skin north east asians do. filipinos already suffer a lot of discrimination and oppression and erasure in east asian comms.

That's fair criticism. But, I'd expect @IssaRae to be given some latitude here. Her writing is often biting. She's said some harsh things about black men, of course. Some I don't agree with. That said, she's not Filipino so she may have overstepped, thinking we're all family.
