Last month, my Latino student was suspended for one day for calling my black student the n-word. The black student slapped him and was suspended for two weeks. Black kid feels like he can’t catch up and may drop out. This didn’t happen in my classroom but the story hurts my soul.
This is one reason parents must be intimately involved in the education of their children. The squeaky wheel still gets the grease.
