I'm a public defender in a community that recently implemented body cameras. Seeing an officer motion to another to cut the mic or to remind him that his mic is on has a way of eroding any residual trust in law enforcement.
-
This “residual trust” in law enforcement eroded a very long time before body cameras.
-
In many communities.
-
Trust was already lost. The cameras were suppose to keep cops accountable but they know they can do what they want cause there’s no consequences.

There are consequences: paid leave

This should be made illegal in all situations in law enforcement.

At some point, every single cop will have to be held accountable to the people.
-
But more likely they wont. However, they WILL have to account to their Maker.
-
Meeting their maker does nothing for those currently dying at their hands.

If you are doing nothing wrong there is no need to mute your microphone.

If that officer were a civilian, like you and I, those words "Mute it. Mute it." would be considered evidence for committing the cover up of a crime.
