He was right to question it then as we are right to question it now. We have to question the way our economy and society are structured. We must come to realize that poverty and suffering are not just byproducts of our current system, but a necessary and key component.

If we want to see what societies value, we need only follow the money. Where are the investments? Prisons or schools? Books of war or books of peace? Military strikes 4 fossil fuels or subsidizing solar & wind power? Creating humanitarian crises or providing humanitarian aid.

I was alive then, in my teens. When Dr. King started to encourage his followers to boycott Coca-Cola and Wonder Bread, things got real. Encouraging the economic power of his base is what got him killed, regardless of who did the killing. I am certain of it, Mr. King.
