That's the way second degree murder works. If somebody is killed in relation to a crime you are committing, then you are legally responsible even if you didn't pull the trigger. 65 years is a lot for second degree, though, so something is definitely off.

He wasn't giving 65 years for what is felony murder on the east. He was giving 65 years because all his charges are running consecutively not concurrently.

But it says they’re responsible for crimes committed while assisting in a crime. The officer shot Washington in self defense, right? So the only crime it seems they could get him on would be attempted murder because Washington fired shots. Am I misunderstanding something?

They are saying because the robbery started the chain of events, he is ultimately responsible for the death. But this is why it’s controversial. Not everyone would agree the police shooting should equal felony murder.

If a co-defendant is killed in the commission of a felony. The other co-defendants are charged with felony murder. Doesn't matter if they pulled the trigger. It's supposed to be a deterrent @thewhatsgoodpod @BrandonLaw502 #jurytrial

Okay so I get it, you're a statist. Clearly. And you should not be able to punish someone for anything they didn't do or try to do to someone else.
