I need progressives to understand something. Barack Obama’s humanity, his Blackness, his culture, and that of Michelle & and the girls, transcend politics for most African Americans. He was a political moderate, but his humanity, in context of the Oval Office was revolutionary.
I think we must find a way to simultaneously honor Obama’s humanity & political achievements while simultaneously interrogating the fact that he built the current systems of deportation and drone warfare. I can respect him AND say the Democratic Party went to shit on his watch.

Isn't this the exact problem with identity politics, justified criticism gets shut down as an attack on the group the person is associated with. Obama did do a couple good things i.e. Iran deal but on some level dems need to come to terms with what equality of people means

This is what Bernie Sanders has said during that March, and some how #CentristDemocrats are taking this too well and just trying to cause more infighting, which we do not want, but the #MilitaryIndustrialComplex and Wall Street think they are better than Human Rights.

I agree with your sentiment. I'm not sure that the perception that people expect perfection is correct. I'd argue that the expectation is honesty. We can be honest about our accolades, but not our short-comings or flaws? I think we can/should be honest about all of it.

Dem loyalist are just as culty as Republicans. Any critique of policies is consider an attack instead of an attempt to analyze shortcomings and major pitfalls.
