I am amazed that this is even legal. But this is also a country where gun manufacturers are legally allowed to bribe every member of Congress.

Seems like pay-to-play. The police unions should not be able to donate to the judges who will be seeing their members' cases in court, nor to the prosecutors who will try their members' cases in court.
