Not going to get into what appropriate sentence *should be, but instead going to just state a few truths/observations: 1. The Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty is unconstitutionally excessive for all crimes except murder. 152 years is a sentence to death in prison.

4. It is established science that the human brain does not stop developing until 25, particularly in areas of impulsivity, decision making, and susceptibility to peer pressure.

5. What if 21 years from now this 21 year old evidenced full rehabilitation, appreciation and understanding about what happened and why, and capacity to be a productive, contributing member of society? After 41 years? 61? We’re okay with giving up all possibility of redemption?

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this sentence.
-
Right, because there shouldn’t be double standards. If ANYBODY shoots an AK47 at a cop, they should be in jail. Doesn’t matter if they’re a bad shot.
-
There should absolutely be a punishment as he committed a crime. However, should that punisent be prison for literally the rest of his life with no hope of freedom or rehabilitation? This punishment does not fit the crime.
-
35 gun charges and attempted capital murder. What should the punishment be?
-
I also believe that our entire justice system is faulty as we aim to completely punish without rehabilitation. This sentence doesn't allow anything but to put him in a box for the rest of his life. This doesn't work.
-
Doesn’t work in what way?
-
The way tax payers gotta pay for his meals and housing for the rest of his life.

No sympathy on this one.
-
You would say something like that. Smh.
-
Not sure what you mean by that, but he shot at a police officer with an AK-47. Not someone I want walking around free in society.
-
I mean something seriously wrong with you if you think anybody deserves 152 years for this crime.
-
If he killed the cop, he'd deserve death. And morally is it different because he is a bad shot? I would expect more like 25 years for this, but I am guessing he had a record the judge took into account.
-
Why the double standard? Cops don't get the death penalty for killing innocent people when they are held accountable.
-
If convicted of first degree murder they too should get death penalty/life without parole. No different.
