Yeah, but it's a crap comparison. A car is a tool for transportation that can be improvised as a weapon. A gun is a weapon that cannot be improvised into a tool for transportation.

A car is a tool for transportation the same way Elon Musk's flamethrower is a cigarette lighter: gets the job done but it is dangerous AF and resource heavy compared to alternatives.

On another note, let’s make gun ownership like cars. You have to have proof of liability, bodily harm, and property damage insurance before walking out with it. If insurance cos had to pay for medical bills & funerals, they’d find a way to regulate. 1/2

How about laws against having a gun while drinking?

Or outdoors. Or around other living things.

I'm conservative, but not having better regulations on guns is ridiculous! We need background checks, physical and psychological, and as you said, a wait period. Banning guns altogether I'm against, but I don't understand why other conservatives blow up at some safety measures.
-
Exactly. These things seem like common sense to me. Gun reform is essential, and I have faith it'll happen, because of the great movement that is taking place. I don't understand why someone would be against this.
-
The concern is that many want guns banned altogether. I'm all for having the proper (desperately needed!) restrictions as mentioned above, but no guns at all is against the constitution and would mean we wouldn't be able to protect ourselves or family very well if need be.
-
I agree, I find that to be a dangerous, sickening authoritarian concept, and it always saddens me when people suggest that. A law abiding, mentally well, trained adult (21) should definitely be able to own a gun to defend their home.
-
I couldn't agree more. The issue though is that that is what MANY, from what I've seen, the majority, of protesters are trying to get to happen... It puts everyone in a difficult situation because you want to support gun regulations but you don't want to support a total ban.
-
Yeah, I understand that. I would hope it's not the majority, but it's very possible. We just desperately need to do something, and without this, nothing will ever happen.
-
There needs to be compromise, but neither side seems to see any problems at all with their "solutions." That's why nothing is working. Protesting saying "no guns" is not going to work, but neither is promoting no/minimal regulations. We MUST be in the middle ground.
-
I expect the side who wants gun laws to stay exactly the same and the side who wants to ban them entirely will both lose. Chances are we will land somewhere in the middle. I know many wouldn't accept that unfortunately, but I feel that most of the country is in between...

I'd be willing to ban cars for anyone who actually says something like "why not ban cars too?" they don't deserve a firearm OR vehicle

And Learners Permits! Anyone using a gun under age 21 must have an adult with a gun license with them at all times.

And while people still die to cars, every time we enact vehicle safety laws, vehical deaths go down, and have been going steadily down for decades. We absolutely should be doing the same thing for guns.
