Shaun with all due respect running on ideas that are universally popular (healthcare for all, Tuition free public colleges, etc) would win anywhere with any base. The Democrats know that, which is why they keep trying to cheat progressives in primaries

Those "universally popular" ideas wouldn't win out in there. The area would call it government giveaways, and socialism. Even if those beliefs are flawed and not true. It's cultural reality. Sometimes its better to get 70% of what you want, than 0%.

Absolutely right

I'm glad everyone is starting to see what Bernie was talking about a year ago. https://www.npr.org/2017/04/20/524962482/sanders-defends-campaigning-for-anti-abortion-rights-democrat …pic.twitter.com/Peldavo5Ch

Bernie's point is perfectly fine. It's his supporters (and/or Russian bots) that go against common sense w/purity expectations, and condemn moderate Democrats that drive most of us crazy.
-
I agree some do, but so do some Hillary supporters. I remember the outrage at Bernie for endorsing Heath Mello, and I clearly remember a bunch of Dems actively helping the GOP candidate. Strange how now they're all suddenly ok with pro-life & pro-gun Dem candidates.

Democratic candidate was pro-choice, and the term "pro-life" has always been ridiculous phrase. Everybody is pro-life in theory. Nobody wants to get an abortion. It's not a favorite hobby of women. It's a painstaking decision, but it's their choice. And, not negotiable.

And that’s important. We aren’t always going to agree completely with any candidate, but it’s so important to vote for the candidate that wont take us backward.

Yes. Perfect is the enemy of good. Still disgusted with the 3rd party voters of 2016 - I absolutely blame them for the mess we’re in.

Don’t. It isn’t their fault

We must learn that very lesson if we are to prevail in November

And since all districts are different, Democrats absolutely should not use Conor Lamb as a template for future candidates / elections just because he performed well tonight.

I disagree with many of his positions too, but whatever he is he's better by far than the alternative

Yes! And a Democrat in office is better, even if they are more conservative than we’d prefer.

Yes! This! They represent their constituents. I always tell my students that they will never find the perfect candidate for themselves unless they run themselves. You're the only person that completely agrees with you. LOL - usually. Perfect is the enemy of the good.
