Did they bother to give her a source? Did she ask? And if it were true, then what? Do people aspire to being fearful and resentful simply to justify selfishness and hatred?

Have your sister ask for sources, look for corroboration, check for bias patterns in the sources, and assess her feelings. If the "news" provokes intense negative reaction, it's a sign it could be fakenews.

There was a meme going around earlier that Dems were saying that Muslims were offended by the US flag. I looked hard for sources on that. Guess what: All roads led back to the meme, which was published by an obvious twitterbot.
