I've grown to think they just don't care

It requires breaking too many shady alliances. GOPlite Democrats are willing to suffer occasional defeat in order to keep a firm grip on the party. The rest of us are caught in a dangerous game of chicken w Trump-like candidates & we have to flinch in the end ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
