Or is the beef not with Bruno Mars, but with society, and who gets promoted and who doesn't in this country? That's a serious conversation that we must always have. But what exactly has Bruno done wrong? What should his music sound like that is culturally acceptable to critics?https://twitter.com/ShaunKing/status/972140458242605056 …

I just want to be practical here. Are people saying that Bruno Mars shouldn't sing? Or that when he sings he needs to somehow whiten that shit up and sound more like Rod Stewart. I'm dead serious. What type of music is this man "allowed" to do?

But her problem is with the music industry and she's made that clear and it's valid but she's trying to project it onto Bruno when he's not the issue nor is he the cause

She isn’t “projecting”. She said Bruno Mars is unoriginal. He’s a karaoke wedding singer. He did not create this space but wins awards in it that the actual originators did not. Guess what...pic.twitter.com/R3MVtsZQcF

But him winning awards isn't his fault. He didn't award himself. He's just making the music he wants to make. Whether he's unoriginal or a karaoke singer to her is besides the point. All the problems she's stating has to do with the music industry and not him

I think she’s using Bruno Mars in general. How main steam media like black music but not coming from black musicians, in the terms who becomes more successful and more marketed. I don’t think it’s cultural appropriation because he respects the culture & give back. Just colorism

This! since his own cultures are influenced by black artists/culture (specifically Filipino culture) it’s understandable that he’d be influenced by black artists/culture..but as far as I’ve seen he understands these influences &gives credit 100% of the time.Issa misunderstanding?

I think Issa misunderstanding for calling him culture appropriator. Bruno Mars is talented .I think her problem is that more musicians of dark skin don’t get marketed the same who are also talented.

If her whole argument would've been based off colorism of the industry then Its great. But she used the whole colorism argument to discredit him and his success. And she speaks as if he hasn't always been down for the culture and paid homage. That's what lost me

I feel ya, I would say its because ppl felt her opinion came off more as an attack. She may have been too into the moment but the vibe and direction of the video and ppl there are slick negative. May have just been heat of moment. But yeah, it definitely blew up.

I guess I'm just not sure why it's a thing at all. Bruno Mars is Bruno Mars - good artist, hell of a showman in concert. I can't seem to find what the problem is with him. I'm guessing I'm missing a lot of information.

It’s not that you can’t listen to it. The problem is that he benefits from a system that says we don’t want black people, but we’ll take their style, creativity, and origins. So since Bruno is not black, we’ll give him a pass and allow him to will awards that others deserve.

That's how it should be, listen to music for enjoyment. Lot of people base success or good music solely on awards, the charts, sales, and artist popularity. There's plenty of good music that goes unseen. That's why ppl are angry. Should be angry at the system, not Bruno
