So many Black families move to predominantly white towns in search of well-resourced schools. They find those schools and also find that their students experience overt bigotry on a daily basis. The tradeoff, in my opinion, is not worth it. #DividedStates

Too bad we can't get wealthy PoC to get more actively behind the work & funding it takes to improve our own schools so that "well-resourced" is everywhere, and no one has to sacrifice their kid's future while struggling to improve a bad system. Maybe the job of folks with no kids

My other response is that maybe as a community this can be effectively dealt with by those Without Kids/Before Having Kids who pull together, so the schools in all our neighborhoods can be ready for our children when we have them. It's a long term project that takes foresight.

My mom has told me on multiple occasions, that black Americans lost A LOT with integration. Sometimes, I see what she means.

If we could answer that, this would be a different country.

Only if you knew... Some parents got to do what they gotta do to give their children any advantage possible. Damned if they do and damned if they don't try something.

Avoiding bigotry is good. But the dilemma parents face: then what do we do? If we can't afford to live in expensive Black towns with well resourced schools, do we spend our child's school yrs battling bad systems that don't improve until AFTER our kid leaves? Another Tradeoff

The mental anguish of being told you don't belong far outweighs any benefits. We need other humans more than we need "a good school."

Not true at all. I was accepted into an academic plus deseg program in the greater northeast in 1984 with other handpicked achieving city students in Philly. There was little push back from area parents and none from the kids. Went from their Middle School onto HS with no issue.

My children did well because I was very involved. I visited the schools and volunteered. Yes they were met with opposition at times, but it made them stronger. They are well versed adult Black radicals in history and law, with degrees. Don't be scared.

Having attended an segregated elementary school in the south, I've never thought the tradeoff was worth it. There's a lot to be said about being in a welcoming environment. But on the other hand, it does prepare them for working in a diverse (sometimes hostile) work force.

The Black kids that go to White schools are more intellectual that's why not protected by the school. If they were athletic they would be protected. Black intellect is not valued by White elites only Black athleticism that's bankable.
