Again. I’ll say it a thousand times. What Tamika tweeted was not anti-Semitic. It wasn’t even about Jewish people in general. In the Black Church tradition we often compare our enemies to the enemies of Jesus. I’ve done it. It has NOTHING to do with hate speech. And for 2000 years, literally, the ‘enemies of Jesus’ has meant ‘the Jews’. And inspired relentless hatred, murder of Jews. Dont dismiss it.

the "i've done it myself", "it's common for us", "for hundreds of years" is a defense without a leg to stand on. Replace "jews" with "african americans" and you see that being told not to "take it that way" is offensive in itself. I'm a fan but you've absolutely failed here.

Are you kidding? Her response to an overtly anti-Semitic speech is "Jesus had the same enemies," and that's not problematic? What Jewish kid hasn't been chased around by someone saying, "You killed Jesus!" You're the problem, not the solution. Sit back and listen.

This is literally the defense people give for using racist idioms: it has nothing to do with race, it means something different the way we use it.

Who thinks the Jewish people are the enemy of Jesus? They believe in him as a prophet of God. Just because their faith doesn’t recognize him as the son of God doesn’t make them an enemy. Many religions don’t believe in Jesus.
