Every major city and state dominated by Democrats should completely ban assault rifles. That's something that we can get done. So far, DC + the following states have banned them. CA CT HI MA MD NJ NY Frankly, that's not enough.

Wasn’t Sandy Hook in CT and San Bernardino in CA where it’s already illegal for those weapons and yet they were legally acquired and used? Don’t think banning guns that 15 million people already own is the best solution (if it’s even a solution)
It's one of many solutions. The ban in CT happened after Sandy Hook. We can't use the presence of one shooting cause us to say bans don't work. For all we know, those bans prevented dozens or hundreds of mass shootings.

If every state around these states had the same ban, it would be difficult to purchase one. Those in CA may probably head to Nevada and purchase one. There's no interstate border patrol to check. That's what happens in Chicago. Same Chicago the gun nuts always use as example

Couldn’t that same thinking justify banning anything in the name of “if it saves just one life”? If we didn’t have swimming pools, people couldn’t drown in them. If we didn’t have opioids, people couldn’t get hooked on them (or helped, but whatever right?) Where does it end?

That’s right. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. We must do whatever we can to minimize risk. You can never absolutely guarantee that bad things won’t happen. But there deterrent measures you can take.

Biggest problem in the states is it is a state by state issue. Conservatives like bringing up Chicago but fail to mention the weapons are mostly being legally bought in Indiana.
