I've taught in elementary schools for 29 years. I would say that a teacher not liking their students, in my experience, is the exception rather than the rule. I don't always make the connection I want with every single child, but I sure as hell try.

I taught for 8 yrs. Did not get out of it because of the kids. They were awesome. I met a few teachers like this. They kept the principal happy and drew a paycheck. And they sucked.

Our 7th grade science teacher would make fun of the kids who asked questions. Relevant questions. Questions about science. (That was the year I decided not to be a scientist.) She didn’t like a single one of us.

I was lucky. I had some that were born to be teachers, were good at it and loved it. Had some "good enough" teachers. Not great. I had a 3rd grade teacher that in restrospect I think was probably a drunk. Hmmm. Had co-workers that didn't like me. No teachers.

I am also an educator and it is true. There are teachers who clearly do not like the kids they teach. But there are far more who really do. Who teach with empathy and compassion and who take our role very, very seriously.

That's so awful! I was deeply attached to all my students, almost no exceptions in nearly 20 yrs. Can't even imagine. Sorry for your wife to have had to deal with that kind of negative attitude. Unbelievable.

Yes, and he who will be nameless wants to put guns into the hands of teachers. Stop. Think about that.
