It made sense for the time: get in with those in power. Unfortunately as they said, it hurt our community in the process.
We have to come to grips with WHY Booker T. was so beloved by whites in his time. It's problematic.

He financially supported civil rights orgs, organized entrepreneurs and pushed education, plus, used his immense influence to provide philanthropy, jobs, skills, training and helped institutions of higher learning. He was strategic.

Absolutely! But even though the strategy had positive effects in the long-term, is it still “good” when there are negative effects for the Blacks in that time period???

It is a mix of both good and bad to reach a larger overall vision. Short-term pain for long-term gain.

For those that don't know, Booker T. Washington felt that blacks would succeed if they engaged in trades (butcher, Baker, Candle stick make, farmer... what slaves already did) this ran cross to DuBois message, which Whites at that time were staunchly against

The Whites at that time agreed with Booker T. Washington, simply because it kept blacks on a second tier.
