We’re seeing this right now with all the attacks and lack of funding for education in the US. The less information people have access to, the less likely they are to question their situation.
Slavery was full of brutality. The rarely discussed brutality of ignorance, withholding education and knowledge from slaves, was essential in keeping black people enslaved.
