Not totally surprising. My great grandfather who was originally from Eastern Europe was one of the first Jewish architects there. He faced a lot of anti-semitism before and during his success.

The idea was rejected because the school didn't want to give up the money generated by rich Southern families looking to send their sons to an elite institution.
