Background check from law enforcement agencies is only a small part of the clearance process for Top Secret clearances. I used to process clearance investigations at what was OPM at Fort Meade, MD.

Even if that was only step one in a process of obtaining clearance, it would seem if you can’t even pass step1 of FBI background check, you should be elimated from further consideration & definitely not be handling the nations highest, most confidential info in the US gov’t!

I actually very highly suspect that simply abiding by right and wrong is not considered nearly as much as financial suceptibility. Like, I honest to god believe the credit check weighs more heavily than anything else. Can they be bought?

But the fact of the matter is most spies don't do what they do for money. They do it for the dumbest reasons- for a grudge, for the thrill, for notoriety.

Monetary compensation of spies is usually pathetic. Piddly. So they really need to be looking at people's morals as much or more than how much money they owe or bankruptcies in their past.

To get a TOP SECRET SCI clearance (Sensitive Compartment Information) which I feel CERTAIN anyone at top level of government would need, you are administered a polygraph. Many nosey questions. My ex husband failed his 3 times... because he was hiding something.

What I want to know is did Porter take a polygraph? Had that been done yet? What did they learn from that? Or.... what areas of the polygraph did he fail by not telling the truth?

The FBI doesn't issue the clearance, they submit the background report. The white house would issue the clearance. At least, that's my understanding. The bottom line is, the WH knew about the domestic violence and didn't care, and kept him on anyway
