So what you are saying is irrespective of value provided by an employee they should be paid 30k per year( not incl. payroll tax) just cause. Seems like a recipe for massive unemployment or under employment. I wonder when a plumber fixes your sink should s/he just charge 1k ??

1. Not understanding your point on the plumber. 2. Nobody should be paid a wage they can't actually live off of.

Basically the plumber charges you what he needs to live instead of the value of fixing a sink clog (about 20-50 bucks). Separating the value of the work from the compensation leads to unemployment. What you really are for is

Agree with Perks. But also Ontario, CAN raised the minimum wage to $14 an hour. As a result 60,000 part time jobs were lost as businesses werent able to turn profits with the additional labour. Margins are too tight in small businesses to support heafty min wage hikes.

I’ll listen to minimum wage being $15 when all first responders make at least that! Many paramedics make less than that!

Median rent in L.A. is about $1350, $15 full time would be a little over 50% of wages toward rent. Better to stop taxing labor and start taxing land. When landowners are responsible for the rental value of land, labor will get a more honest wage.

We did it in Ontario recently, many have/will lose their job, and restaurant service is going downhill fast...

Minimum wage isn't for supporting a family. It's meant to be a starting base wage. Inflation is based on minimum wage so everyone else's wages don't increase but all the products and services do.This is a major reason the middle class is almost obsolete.Think this through people.

Then they should move to a city where $15 is enough. U can't expect say McDonald's to stay selling dollar menu items but pay their employees $15+ an hour and expect their prices to stay that low. They raise the prices they go out of business

We shouldn't set the national minimum wage to work for cities, where cost of living is higher. National minimum should either be the bottom, or the average, not the top. Then states/cities can raise to meet local needs.

In my city, you need about $22/hr at a minimum to cover rent, electric, food, meds and incidentals.
