Always dangerous to stereotype people. Bottom line is military people are humans, too...and sometimes flawed. As the wife of an upstanding retired AF human, my husband is nothing like Kelly or Flynn.

I secretly fear that most leaders are horrible, and earned the position through luck, lineage, or espionage. It's the rare few who have the good of the many in mind, while ensuring the good of the most vulnerable.

Maybe military leaders are a mixed bag and the very worst ones are promoted by the worst civilian leaders.

a lot of veterans get out and are very capable because adapting/overcoming is a critical learned skill. Mny of us saw thru the bs and got out. SOME stay for motivation-ALOT more clowns stay bc they knw the outside will chew them up. I'm mildly ticked at this hasty generaliztion

The military has a terrible problem when it comes to dealing with violence against women. People forget that when they try to aggrandize career officers like Kelly, when he could very well have been part of the problem when he served.

Especially number 2. I think military leaders are used to supporting the structure and take on the attributes around them. Kelly's as much a symptom as a problem.

Also--military and other authoritarian cultures normalize violence against women. They just do. #TimesUp
