My Latest. In many states where marijuana is now "legal," marijuana related arrests of African Americans & Latinos have actually INCREASED - dramatically in many instances. What we're seeing is that racism is deeply baked even into these new "reforms."https://theintercept.com/2018/01/25/marijuana-legalization-weed-drug-arrest/ …

I live in Colorado. I want to know more about this. I don’t know about ownership, but it seems like 50/50 employees are white vs POC. What’s the solution to eliminate inequities in Justice with regards to weed?
-
It’s not 50/50 here in CO. In fact, we only have 1 Black female dispensary owner in the state. We must do better. That includes micro licenses so that those w/o large investors can enter the industry and eliminate the prohibition on those w/ former MJ convictions.

I didn't think that stat could possibly be true, and fortunately upon some googling I see that it isn't. Those are numbers are true of under-21's, though.https://www.npr.org/2016/06/29/483954157/as-adults-legally-smoke-pot-in-colorado-more-minority-kids-arrested-for-it …

(True) legalization doesn't end racial disparity in policing, but it absolutely reduces marijuana arrests for minority groups, dramatically so.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/03/21/pot-legalization-hasnt-done-anything-to-shrink-the-racial-gap-in-drug-arrests/?utm_term=.458b63cfdedd …

Same folks for whom it's been implicitly legal for a generation or two. Infuriating.

Totally agree that ending structural racism will take much more than legalising weed. But this bit seems to clash with the numbers presented by
@DrugPolicyOrg, which show a [shamefully] differentiated, yet overall positive, effect for PoC? http://www.drugpolicy.org/legalization-status-report …pic.twitter.com/ByBsz0dRyw

Let alone how the legalization of marijuana has also slowly began to close the window of people of color to take advantage of legally selling the product .

And getting into the industry
