Dems got a concession on CHIP & took that off the table as a GOP leverage tool. The GOP now HAS to do *something* on DACA or deportations on an extremely voter friendly program will occur in an election year. It would be the death knell for the GOP if they falter now on DACA.

CHIP was always going to get done—it wasn’t leverage for GOP. Wasn’t a barraging “chip” for either side.
-
The GOP has absolutely been using CHIP as a bargaining tool. They've been holding it over the Dems heads for 4 months.
-
Nope—they’ve used it as a ruse for one. It’s this same lack of understanding which prevents Dems from winning—particularly in terms of messaging, but also in terms of negotiations.
-
How was it a ruse? Millions of kids' families have been stressed to the max. Several states have been halting enrollment and sending out potential termination letters.
-
Exactly—and there was an overwhelming number of Senate Republicans who would’ve acquiesced on CHIP—It was always going to get done (it’s not my fault if you don’t understand or can’t see that).
-
Jesus, ur arrogance is hard to ignore. Try to come down a bit & listen to what other ppl r saying. The public did not understand CHIP in the way u or some understand it. Repubs continually brought it up to media saying Dems didn’t care about these kids. That was their narrative.
-
Exactly and the "bargaining chip" is not some abstract idea. People's lives hang in the balance. If the GOP held out for 4 months or maybe till October to be heros before the vote, how many kids would die? That's not abstract. Kids would die. Getting this done now mattered.

Did we at least get CHIP funded, or are little kids still gonna die because of this, too?
-
okay, that's great news. Does the House still have to approve? If I'm the parent of a sick kid who needs CHIP to survive, how do I feel right now about whether my kid will have treatment in February? (I'm not! I just wonder where we are on the promise-to-reality spectrum)
-
Yes the House has to approve.

thanks.

DUDE. Fully funded CHIP for 6 years (so that hostage situation resolved), and an up-or-down vote on policy 85% of the electorate supports in less than three weeks. This is GOOD.
