He was 70 days sober when he died. He was trying to make a change. So......?

I understand his struggles well. His body/kidneys etc. were ravaged by it. I'm not here to judge him or anyone. Members of my own family have died from this.
-
I just feel the conversation needs to be more focused on WHY this is happening. It’s easy to say stay away from drugs.
-
Did I say that? I absolutely agree with you.
-
I’m making a statement. I haven’t accused you of anything.

How about we use his time to talk about what’s driving these kids to it. Like the violence they witness everyday on the south and west sides of Chicago first?
-
I agree. Let's put it all on the table. Do so with compassion, but we have to be honest about it all.

Are you familiar with ACE scores? (Adverse Childhood Experience) look up Dr. Nadine Burke Harris. It's not an addiction issue, it's a societal and poverty issue.

I think it’s time we address the thousands of black kids living with PTSD in Chicago who resort to substance/drug abuse because they don’t know how else to escape their nightmares.
-
IT IS TIME! Think of the contributions these kids could make if only they were properly nurtured and supported. America is losing out on its natural resources: it's children.
-
I think about it every single day

Shaun - when we're pathologizing kids and pumping them with benzos so they can sit in a classroom, what do we expect the end result to be?

Humans have used drugs for thousands of years. The difference today is that they are weaponized, criminalized, and exist in an intellectual void thanks to prohibition. The way to fix the drug problem is to end prohibition.

One of the problems is, if doctors and nurses suspect drug abuse they treat them like crap. They don’t offer help and will terminate care if they find out you have drugs in your system. There is no compassionate care
-
Not entirely true.. I'm an Addiction Nurse, we try 2help those addicted &I'm sad every time some1 comes in 4 treatment, no matter what age but also glad they came 4 help. I commend that! We also hire them as counselors, the best kind is the 1 with experience
-
You’re an “addiction” nurse So you understand. I’ve over heard nurses and Doctors say some ugly thing about people of all ages. I think it should be a requirement for all medical personal to take a class on this . It’s hurtful to see how they react and look down on them
-
It's true some people are insensitive and shouldn't be working in this field
