This costs them money and that's good, but a boycott would have peaceably done that.

We are poor!! We can't boycott things we cannot afford. All we can do is express our rage in response to what evokes our painful history
-
Then is picketing a better option? I genuinely don't know.
-
You can't dictate how people who are oppressed should respond to centuries of racist abuse and oppression!! The mere fact that H&M stores are still around in a country like South Africa is an insult to the so-called liberation movement. Can you imagine a Nazi store in Germany??
-
You are painfully misguided my friend.
-
Are you here to guide me??
-
No, I wish you and your people the best. But I can’t help but notice and dislike when people destroy things and act like hoodlums in the name of social justice. It solves nothing.
-
Oh, is that so?? How best would you prefer people who have been aggrieved through the worst unthinkable atrocities to respond?? We have been seeking solutions for centuries now!! Perhaps you have the answers.

I’m confused why people are viewing this as racist;little black kids can’t wear monkeys on their clothing anymore? He wasn’t eating fried chicken and watermelon doing a jig. It’s more racist to misconstrue this. Great Satan’s jizzbox, this is why we can’t have nice things.
-
It wasn't just a picture, there were also the words "coolest monkey in the jungle" How can you possibly be unaware of the way that word (& related words) are used by racists? There was an entire racist forum based around it ffs
-
Right, but that was not the intention of the ad or the shirt. You’re probably one who thought it was appropriate to remove the crocodile from the Peter Pan ride when that kid got eaten by an alligator at Disney World. This isn’t racism, this is hysteria.
-
There’s a history here. And you know that history. When Obama was elected, white racists didn’t seem to have any memory loss when it came to monkeys. Nor do they seem to have that problem at European soccer games. Willful ignorance is the worst kind.
-
Missed the European soccer game reference, it's been a headline issue in Australian sport too. If you've spent time in any Western nation, there's no pretending you don't understand the racist history & contemporary racist usage of these wordshttp://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-05-25/goodes-gutted-but-places-no-blame/4712772 …

I’m from LOS ANGELES. For the last time, I am not disputing the history of the term monkey being used derogatorily against Black people, I am disputing that this is an example of that. What’s so hard to understand?

The store will be closed, some people won’t get paid, employees will have to clean up the mess and the damage will be passed on in higher costs to consumers. How does this punish the idiots in the advertising department who are ultimately responsible?
-
Boycott results will end up on employee being laid off because of no sales anyway. Vandalism/Boycott there is no better devil.

Obviously racial abuse & using slurs is wrong but I am struggling to believe that H&M would be deliberately racist. Get the sense it was an unfortunate photo that could have been avoided with a more diverse team. Even so don't think it justifies such destructive behaviour.
-
What if they had 10 shirts chose random models and put out the ads not seeing race. makes more sense then intentionally being racist and losing business.
