My mommy instincts just surfaced-this young man deserves to pursue his dream without being verbally abused with racist taunts. People think England isn’t as racist as US? Huh uh. Also I want to kick their racist arses right out of the stands.

Racism in the UK is certainly an issue. The experiences this young man faced were while playing against teams of other EU nations where racism in football in rife.

I appreciate the clarification

This has been a major issue for black footballers in Europe for many years. UEFA does absolutely nothing. Many played of color have come out and talked about the racial issues they've dealt with from players and fans.

Football in Europe is still festered with incidents such as these. It’s much better than a few decades ago but never okay until gone completely.

This kid gets up in the mornings wanting to enjoy his life, work with his team, play ball. He wants to be cheered when he scores and befriended. How does being assaulted & insulted regularly affect young minds?
-
What if acts of racism were now treated like these recently disclosed acts of sexual assault? After all, the damage is the same, if not worse in most cases.

Racism in sports at all levels that instead of stopping it the coaches make the athletes “turn the other cheek”! Why not ban the “fans” from all spectator sports
#ForLife ? No yelling epithets or “4 letter words”, throwing anything, etc else banned 4ever!Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Our plight in every culture. He'd be encouraged to hear from others like Pelé, Arthur Ashe, Jackie Robinson, etc when it was so much worse. Tell the truth but don't stop. Don't allow this to turn to hate he'll be one of great character and strength

Two of the biggest culprits historically- hosting the World Cup. Russia and Ukraine.
-
Too right - it's pretty much expected behavior in Russia, and they have been made to play matches in empty stadiums, etc., but then they get awarded the World Cup. Not much "real" punishment, is it? Racist players need to be banned for long periods - several months - as a start.
-
I can count the amount of times club sides have played in empty stadiums. Fines have been meagre and I don't think I've ever seen a points deduction. The repercussions really aren't enough to deter, even then they're retrospective. Not effecting the game they occur in...
-
Agreed - teams in Eastern Europe have openly "skinhead" supporter groups that face almost no sanctions. I think more players need to just start walking off the pitch when this crap happens, and be supported by the white players as well. That would put pressure on to repercussions

Racists use racial insults to offend, distract and generally upset the black footballers. When people are upset we can’t perform at our best. They can’t physically block the black players so instead they mentally/emotionally block them with lies.
