Ehhhh I don’t think someone’s sketchy friend from college should automatically be given control of a small business.

You think that's what I meant Taylor?

Forget *when* marijuana is legalized. No one *now* should be jailed for weed. Release all now and expunge. It's a human and fiscal emergency in need of urgent action.
-
Make it legal. Tax it. Use the money to fund better schools, better public libraries with longer evening and weekend hours (is *your* public library open after 5 pm on Saturday?), better roads with fewer potholes...

I’m a commissioner in charge of the marijuana program here in Massachusetts. I helped write our marijuana law. I agree with the concept wholeheartedly though legally speaking this is near impossible. But I am happy to collaborate with any fellow lawmakers who want to brainstorm.
-
In NJ we already allow those convicted of marijuana sales before age 21 a chance for a clear record...after legalization we want that extended to all ages + industry access.

are you that committed to the principle of following the law for its own sake?

Released ok. Expunged, no way. Just because the law changes doesn't change the fact that they knowingly broke the law when it was in place.
-
So legality dictates morality? I think not. Records should be expunged.
-
Morality can exist in conjunction with or in opposition to a law. Depends on the law. No one I ever purchased weed from was selling it as an opposition of some great social injustice. It was personal gain despite the law. Morality in that instance is at least questionable.

Shaun, I get why marijuana is of particular importance to folks, but the entire drug war needs to end. It is a failure at every level, it has never reduced supply since 1971 (its only job). All the War on Drugs does in manufacture misery, mass incarceration, and death
