Full steam ahead would excite his base and show him who he's beholden too. Anything less than that and he has zero chance of re-election. Pleasing conservatives might make them like him better, but they'll still vote for the actual conservative every time.

How long do we 'wait and see' when yet another white Southern Democratic politician seems to be shifting to the right? Remind him NOW and everyday that he can't abandon the people responsible for his victory.

He should use the 4/5ths rule to fill those positions based on the demographic that propelled him to victory. Putting more black women and men into those positions than their white counterparts.
