Defendants who are poor, have no political connections and often people of color, faced with the same crime (or even far lesser offenses) would be allowed to rot in jail or even actual prison indefinitely before trial. But it seems money talks and justice walks.

Been a criminal defense attorney for nearly three decades. Most of my clients are indigent. Never, ever had a client let out of jail on house arrest.
-
Just curious. What area do you practice? I’d imagine there’d be a difference in indigence between clients of public defenders’ office and clients of white collar defense attorneys.
-
The overwhelming majority of my clients are indigent, and I am appointed to represent them. White collar defendants are routinely afforded all kinds of advantages in the justice system, and every where else.

Kalief Browder was 16 when he was arrested & spent over 3yrs in prison on a false allegation because his family couldn’t afford $900 bail. This grown ass man is guilty, has multiple passports & gets to go home with a 11pm curfew.
