I've never said this before: Charles Barkley was right. Spot on actually. The Democratic Party relies on Black allegiance, but primarily uses it for white power. This needs to end right now. MY LATEST.https://theintercept.com/2017/12/15/charles-barkley-doug-jones-democrats-black-vote/ …

@DonCheadle why are you pushing this false narrative? Your original tweet was corrected. This picture is false and misleading. The full intern group is much more diverse. https://twitter.com/jftn3/status/923168323705167874 …This Tweet is unavailable. -
No it’s not. One picture is of the interns for the Democratic Party. The other is of Democrats in Congress.

Look. The bigger problem is internships are primarily a wealth signal. Who can afford to work for no pay, and on top of it pay your school for the academic credits? (Most internships require you be doing the work for academic credit which costs $$)

IIRC, these interns are unpaid, which leads to a major lack in economic and, usually, racial diversity. I think it's a big problem for the party. If they started paying interns I think you'd see a lot more people of color able to enter politics and work their way up.

While I completely agree, a more effective comparison would be those who APPLIED versus those hired. Sometimes it is about the percentage of those represented based on applications, as the applicant base is not always reflective of the voting block.
-
If potential applicants know they can't keep themselves afloat an unpaid internship, they won't waste their time applying though. Now that the DNC will pay interns, this should help them diversify a bit. We all lose if the hiring pool is only people who can be funded by mom+dad.
-
Solid point. That would then apply to all internships & not just politics. Unpaid internships are largely bullsh*t anyway, so it would be nice if those disappear across the board!
-
I completely agree. And it's especially damning for things like the DNC and media outlets who utilize unpaid internships yet label themselves as champions for diversity.

Honest question- and I don't disagree with you on your basic argument about he DNC- but could we have a pipeline issue with diversity in colleges- who is majoring in political science, Disenfranchised students' access to internships, etc.
-
We need minority scholarships on political science, government affairs, pre-law, etc.

Are these paid internships? If not, there’s a solution. I couldn’t afford to take internships offered because it meant not working while also in school. Bet it’s the same for a lot of other minority kids.

I want to add one thing: The Democratic Party is using white people by convincing us that we are helping black communities.
