I'm not comfortable w/ the phrase "criminal justice" that has basically become the go-to phrase for an entire space working on issues related to police, prisons, prosecutors, & so much more. I don't think the word "criminal" is the optimum word there that we should be using.

Also the word “justice” doesn’t reflect reality.

We always hear that there is not enough money for health care, housing support, rehabilitation, and education. Never heard of a judge that couldn't send a drug offender to prison to serve a mandatory minimum sentence because there was no money for incarceration.

Yes, it’s the justice lacking all through the system that the reforming is trying to address

Criminal justice is actually a fitting oxymoron. Justice in America is often criminal.

At this point I don't think "justice" is an apt descriptor either, since that is what is seriously lacking in most cases.

It's tough to separate criminal out of the phrase. Just referring to justice is not enough; you can find justice in civil & administrative courts, mediation, arbitration, etc. IMO it's important to destigmatize the criminal context. It's a category of law, not a label of guilt.

How about simply "justice"? We're working on justice reform, which includes everything from the cop on the block to the prosecutors, judges and jails.

What I don’t understand is republicans are up in arms about any possible unmasking Americans colluding with Russians but perfectly fine with sessions showing private texts of an FBI agent to reporters. Is it just me or is there a double standard here
