Atlanta mayoral race shows risks of privileged progressives making perfect the enemy of good https://interc.pt/2BHo0z3 by @ShaunKing
My greater point is this: Fight for the most progressive candidate available from start to finish. Once Fort lost, and it became a runoff, it was my very strong opinion that Bottoms was the better option. We ignore better options at our own peril

Bottoms may have been the better option, but only because she was Black. She NEVER was a progressive and a bit disingenuous to try to paint her in that light. After Fort and Woolard were out, there were no progressives left in that race.
-
Well that and it isnt as simple as those who keep saying support Keisha or Doug are making it. Even folks who voted for Keisha did the Girl Guess I’m with Her vote. There is still a fight and need to organize for accountability.
-
I agree. What I am also saying is that accountability works far better with people you know and have capital with. I now know her team well. Much easier to hold a team accountable when you have access
-
You can't hold anyone accountable without any leverage and now that the vote has been held, hard for me to see where anyone has any accountability measures other than a recall threat. As for knowing her and her team, the people may KNOW her too, albeit from different perspective.

This wasn't about a better option. It was a hostage situation for progressives and it IS time this stops. Progressives need to run their OWN candidates to support instead of being continuously forced to choose between Democratic candidates trying to put progressive robes on.

No reason why progressives can caucus with and be allies with Democrats on issues of common interest/ground. But we have got to stop trying to force square pegs into round holes. No one wins that way.

Yeh whatever- Bottoms and Norwood suck no question. But what’s your thing about, if you think Fort is perfect you’re probably not from Atlanta? Cause I’m actually from Atlanta (my whole family is) & Fort has been the guy out there on the streets for YEARS trying to save (cont)
-
I'm not from Atlanta originally, but been here 30 yrs. and I know Sen. Fort from years of advocacy work. No denying he supports progressive policies, but that's not why he lost.
