but what are these economic concerns that aren’t just as bad (or worse) for poor minorities?

This was the most tone deaf statement he's made and he's made a LOT of them. I voted for him in the primaries but he consistently disappoints on race issues.

There is no tight rope. You're either racist or you're not. Twittler was and is openly racist and they signed on. Period and end of.

The "shadow of truth" is this. The pain of whites who are poor stems from material reality (can't afford things they need) but also from self inflicted pain caused by their sense of entitlement, as supreme beings and/or "real Americans." Most trump voters are white, but not poor.

The flaw of your logic is there is no motivation for politicians to do so. They are slaves to campaign contributions and poor people can’t contribute. Easy as that.

It's such a double-edged sword cause you know it's that mild naivete of Bernie's that has kept his career full of integrity for so long.

Okay, you are right about that. Sanders needs to be more clear & say that when he says "things that make sense", he means economically, not racially.

I think there's a difference between the racist middle class or upper middle class ass-hat and the poor (uneducated) Trump voter. Take the tax issue for instance, whenever the GOP or Trump talks "tax cuts" most uneducated people think the cuts will benefit them. 1/2

Bernie may be banking on educating these people (this one demographic) on how things really are. Just my 2 cents anyhow.

Strongly disagree. How does Sanders speak about economic change to voters in swing states without alienating some of the independents? Sanders has spoken on racism and bigotry many times. Addressing economic concerns could assuage racial divides, lowers crime, etc.

It says a lot of white people when not catering to bigots can be characterized as "walking a tight rope."

He said things that make sense to them, and absolve them of guilt and shame for the situation they find themselves in. Aversion to shame is a big motivator.

And also, as you've pointed out, the racism and xenophobia appealed to them... its way easier to blame others and consider yourself superior than to deal with your own responsibility head on.
