It's more than a "spot". It's a damn football field. It's why I can't fuck with him. #GoHomeBernie

nope. I'm so over the attempts to sympathize & understand the views of people who knowingly voted for a racist, sexist, sex offender, crooked monster. there is no excuse. I will never forget or forgive or understand the people who put us here. he showed us all who he is
-
Exactly. Erring on the side of ignoring the blatant bigotry apparent in every fiber of 45's life to assume people would be less permissive if they were less economically depressed is wrong and dangerous.

While only anecdotal, the vast majority of Trump voters I know are having buyers remorse. I can only think of one that still "supports" him. Seems Bernie's right; maybe not a "vast majority", but many Trump voters are realizing he lied on jobs, trade, healthcare, etc...

We are all struggling economically. That’s easily the most bi/nonpartisan common ground. That election, and Trump’s win, was about race and hatred. It’s the hateful rhetoric that made sense to them. Appealing to their financial struggle doesn’t apply.

I think he meant those districts that were white that went for Obama twice but then went for Trump in last year's election

I am also struggling economically, my non existent bigotry stopped me from voting for Trump. I know what caused people to vote for Trump and it wasn’t economics. How does he explain the people who are NOT struggling economically? There were plenty of them.

“Trump said things that made sense” to them. They were already driven by fear: economic fears especially but scapegoated the reasons for their pain with racist, nationalistic extremism. Trump tapped into the fear/hate. Moving past hate, they have to confront the pain.
-
That’s difficult for them. Lashing out or letting hate inform their opinions are coping mechanisms. I think it’s best we remember these, too, are humans. Fallible, yes, but redeemable qualities can be made possible. Ignoring them certainly solves nothing. Ignore a wound: festers.

Thanks for admitting to this flaw in Bernie’s ointment. I have respect for him but in this issue he is... mistaken.

It is in the nature of healthy humans to feel empathy. However, to forget facts in favor of forgiveness is insane. Forgive but never forget.

the only way we're gonna break through that racist idealism is to offer an alternative narrative.
