My Latest. How far too many progressives are hating good political leaders because they aren't perfect, or ideologically pure. It's a problem that must be addressed and is often rooted in white privilege.https://theintercept.com/2017/12/07/atlanta-mayor-bottoms-progressives/ …

Only if I’m implying a different voting strategy, which I’m not necessarily. What if progs vote for the better candidate but continue to lambast the establishment candidate for their status quo politics? Giving up fighting strikes me as disarming, by definition.

I agree. Never stop fighting.

A candidate giving noncommittal answers to questions about the issues that are critical to our very lives SHOULD be called out. They should know they cannot win without strongly commitments for action.
-
this is why politicians do nothing when in power, they know they just have to be slightly better than the GOPer to win.

Including conservative Democrats, right?

This thought supposes that having, at best, moderate liberals in office indefinitely does not cause severe damage to very real people.

When our choices are one candidate who wants to hurt us and another candidate who won't fight to stop corporations from hurting us, really the difference is negligible. And voters are telling Democrats: It's not enough to be not evil. You must be good.

Democrats DO need to clearly hear the message: Voters don't come out in droves for "I'm not the other guy." We do need to believe in candidates in order to come out in numbers that result in victories. We need to know who they are and what they stand for.

When you say “conservatives” are you only talking about republicans or does this include these “centrist” democrats too?

I see what you're saying, but aren't the people seeking office supposed to earn votes from The People? If they aren't getting the votes of progressives, they can change that. Expecting the masses to change is foolish, when one person can change and court the voters instead.

No having a centrist like Obama in office did very real damage to people and also allows the country to slip further right as the base loses interest and policies of the right are adopted as centrist. If an establishment candidate is elected they should be pushed left.
