We need to examine how they are being trained. There are no more intensive non-violent intervention courses in my area. In fact many Police are trained by ex-military in paramilitary fashion. It's worth a look

I was just about to ask you to put a prior similar tweet into context. Without context (relative # of killings by police) it's tough to know if we're a) getting better but still in dire need of help. b) staying the same or c) getting worse. Sadly we seem to be c) getting worse.

The issue is that police are, for the most part, patrolling neighborhoods they’re scared of or would never live in and in most cases WANT to use their gun. Not all, but too many.
