Canadian here - no horse in this race. My guess is because he's not a Democrat. I like the guy, and think he would be great for your country but he isn't a team player at all. He doesn't rise all boats with him. A true-blue democrat could love his ideas and hate him for that.

he also spurred literally millions of people young and old who previously felt alienated/ignored by politics to get involved. i can personally attest to how many people my age i know who felt empowered becauss of him.

So the solution is for him to compromise and join the party, instead of the "my way or the highway" approach that he's taking. You can be correct 100% of the time and still not be right with that attitude. He wouldn't fly in a Canadian party either. Sucks.
