As someone who used to be a plaintiff's lawyer in employment cases in DC area, I disagree. Settlements are not admissions of guilt. But they are made between consenting parties and often involve confidentiality. On both sides. Protects accused and accusers.

I think we need to be really careful talking about getting the information and making it public since the victims are named. Big employers have these misc cases which don’t always mean what the name might imply.

The problem here isn't the secrecy. That's routine when a woman complains about sexual harassment and settles. The secrecy protects her if she seeks a new job. The problem is that Congress never took action to reprimand or dismiss Conyers.
