Tethering straps= Bondage= Slavery. Not buying it! Miss me with this excuse! The Superintendent should have apologized to THAT student!pic.twitter.com/ysbIqv0ZYQ
-
Yeah I'm sure that is exactly what it was. Straps to teach a toddler how to walk. On the non white child. In 17th century clothes

-
Draw the picture for them.... because they obviously think we don’t see the Spin on this mess!!
-
This is such a ridiculous stretch on their part that I seriously hope they don't think anyone buys it.
-
I'd like to see an example of all children wearing these in the 1700's or even the 1880's

"The bodices...often had leading strings or bands attached to the shoulders to help parents guide a young child who was learning to walk"
-
thats not same teacher and trying to justify this make u weak
-
They aren't teachers in school, they are presenters from an organization that visit schools to do the presentations on colonial life.
-
and the teacher could have prevented that from happening. Defending that makes no sense.
-
Didn't defend it. Explained it a little more. Didn't defend it.
-
like I said not explanation needed. It should have NEVER happened!
-
I guess I feel like if we can understand why/how it happened, maybe it can be prevented in the future.

Ok so I got the context. Can we talk about why this organization is called Plymouth Plantation? Maybe rethink that.
-
"... the original settlement of the Plymouth Colony..." 2/2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plimoth_Plantation …
-
I read that on Wikipedia as well but the context of naming anything a plantation given the history of this country is ill-advised at best.
-
...... never occurred to me to equate it with plantations in the south. Just seemed "colonial" to me, old-fashioned, and very "New-England".
-
I'm from and still live in the south. Plantation has a very different connotation to me. Plantation = cotton/sugarcane = slavery 1/2
-
I actually just took a tour of a plantation in Louisiana and to hear how slaves built the "big house" is sobering to say the least 2/2
-
I can't imagine. There's definitely a different connotation up here. Will never hear the name "Plimouth Plantation" the same way again though
-
I wrote about my tour if you're interested. But be warned, it's long.https://sorryitspersonal.wordpress.com/2017/10/16/my-tour-of-a-louisiana-plantation-got-me-feeling-some-type-of-way/amp/ …
