No, who says it’s a right for him to be on the team? If he wants to be in the team he has to follow the teams rules.

What's at issue is whether or not the school has a right to make him stand.

They absolutely have every right to kick him off the team. They don’t have to make him stand, but he knew there would be consequences for it

Again, if you punish someone for NOT standing, you are compelling them to stand.
