We didn't talk gun control after children were shot in elementary school. We won't talk it now. We are a sick and evil people.
I vehemently disagree with anyone saying that now is not the time to discuss how we best prevent such things from happening. Of course it is

What is the solution? As a UK citizen it's hard to understand why any civilian would have access to guns like this? How does this end?

It's always been that time to be honest though we choose to report it but not take steps to prevent it.

Same old story, people see a tragedy today and say how horrible it is but there is never a call for legislation and ban on these weapons.

We continue to give people access to them, but continue to claim that we're banning or looking to prevent.
