You know where else people are required to stand for the National Anthem?
North Korea

The good guys are going to win in court. Precedent is 75 years old. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_State_Board_of_Education_v._Barnette …
Called them- said constitution doesn’t apply to extracurricular activities. Seriously- they said that.
If they want to spend thousands of tax dollars to pay lawyers to go to court and be told by a judge that they're wrong, that's they're call.
Yeah- losing side of history they are. American nazis.
I wouldn't go to "nazis" just yet. Picking this fight and losing has been a perennial conservative ritual. Same with school prayer.
Had this exact discussion in our district - 1st amendment rights violated if HS is public!! Bad idea.
Might as well send an engraved invitation to the ACLU informing them of the lawsuit they’ll be filing shortly…
Thats probably part of what Trump wants. A further excuse to divide and a chance to beat up on judges.
@ACLU here you go!
Light em up, @ACLU
In a public school??? How is that legal?
Unfortunately, my understanding is that free speech is not protected within public schools. This may be legal. @girlsreallyrule @tribelaw
No, they can't make 'em kowtow to fake patriotism. The kids don't have to say pledge, etc.
They certainly shouldn't be able to, but these days we're in Trumphell and I can't assume that still holds up.
That is a valid point. Does the Rule of Law exist if there's no one to enforce it?
Time to donate to the ACLU again -- they will hopefully handle it.
This policy is absolutely illegal. Some others have been pointing to a 1943 SCOTUS decision that held this to be unconstitutional.
