Electoral college allows for state representation. Which is why most populous states get more EC votes. It works.

Or go back to original conception and have House elect the pres, like in parliamentary countries. Framers though EC would usually be hung.

Its hard to make constitutional changes. Proportional allocation coupled with run off elections would fix the problem. Easier to implement.

Exactly 4 parties is hypothetical. It's either proportional represent. (=multi-party) or majority wins (=2 parties)
