Illegal not to vote in Ecuador. Pretty stiff penalties for not voting.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure if I support mandatory voting. Would like to see citizens eager to vote, and a government that doesn't try to stop them.
-
I am conflicted on the issue myself, but coming out of Latin American autocracy, it may have been a good idea for now.

If Election Day was a national holiday maybe. But those in power don't have an interest in letting the working class vote easily.
-
I've thought about the logistics of making election day a national holiday. Is intriguing, but what about midterms and local elections?
-
Doesn't have to be a holiday. In other countries there are rarely lines. In and out with legal permission to leave work to
#vote -
I'm hoping in the future we'll be able to vote using biometric signatures. That way we eliminate GOP arguments for purging voter rolls.

In the US they have us vote on a working day when all working class are too busy. Instead of the weekend like most of those places^

We won't see turnout like other countries until people feel there is more to vote for than the lesser of two evils.
-
More is needed: Automatic Runoff, proportional elections, elimination of electoral college, public funding of elections, etc.
